Creating Sacred Fire (1)

Picture
Fire has been central to our way of life since the beginning of memory. Fire brings us warmth, light and healing. Fire also has a spiritual role in our indigenous way of life.

This one day outdoor workshop offered by Ard Druí Niamh at Temple Crom will guide you through the essentials of lighting a ceremonial fire. Each participant will learn how to create fire using a spark on char cloth and birch bark - all kit provided. Together we will explore how to use fire to bring change into our lives as well as how to use fire to celebrate the Solar Festivals with your friends and family.

This workshop focuses on lighting a fire in a container off the ground. We will collect and use wild wood. We will expereince two different ways of igniting the char cloth with a flint and steel and a more modern fire striker. Once the heart of our fire is strong we will delve deeper into ceremony including ceremony for the self and ceremony for a group. I teach interactive and involved ceremony and I plan to share the basic elements of this type of indigenous ceremony with you throughout our day together.
