Preface
This course book is written as a method of sharing Guidance, Teachings and Inspiration in order to support seekers, wherever they may be - in finding their own Celtic Path. To do this sharing the author also took up a special challenge; to write most of this book in a new version of an ancient lost Ogham script to share this Guidance, Teachings and Inspiration. This new script is called ‘OgamNua’ - meaning ‘new Ogham’.
I was reluctant to publish any book for many reasons. Perhaps the greatest reason was not to presume to share with others the personal wisdom gained from the knowledge and experience I have gathered on my own Life Path as if it is the one and only or indeed ‘the best’ Celtic Path. That is not for me to say. Every one of us can have our own Path to higher awareness or, we can “keep the head down” in quiet servitude to another, it is our choice. But because I have strong Celtic Roots I always felt it in my whole being that I should try to connect with an authentic Irish Celtic Path.
The teachings of our ancestor Druí to the Druí Daltaí (Student Druids) were oral, face-to-face encounters that most likely started at a very young age (for most but not for all) and as every mature Pathwalker knows, “learning never stops”. A good teacher will guide the seeker to find his/her own answer to their own questions thereby causing a shift in perspective or, at a minimum, the guidance should at least cause reflection on the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of a situation other than just the ‘what’. In my opinion, the most important under-standing for any genuine seeker of any Path to higher awareness to learn, is:
Celtic Druid TriadNua
Be wary of those who teach you what to think instead of how to think
Be wary of those who teach you what to see instead of how to see
Be wary of those who teach you what to feel instead of how to feel
True wisdom is the result of combining knowledge and experience. But it must be your own individual knowledge and experience if it is to be your own personal wisdom. We must work and reflect and strive to greater awareness of the sources of our knowledge and experience if wisdom is to be real for us.
I crafted / created ‘OgamNua-to-English’ to replace the ‘Church’s Ogham-to-Latin/Church Irish’ version and its misleading legacy; which includes the modern fake Ogham tree calendar and fake Ogham zodiac of New Age Bandits and Neopagan use. There are two reasons for this recrafting / recreation: firstly I desire to take Ogham back from its abusers, secondly I feel there is a need to have a new script for our re-emerging indigenous expression. The original Ogham of Ogma was the written script of a language from the times of the Tuatha De Dannan, i.e., from the Bronze Age of least 4,000 years ago while the Latin of Rome only began around 2,500 years ago. The original Ogham is since lost to us and the Church’s Ogham-to-Latin is a lie, a false construction designed to validate the Church’s position of authority over an ancient culture.
The modern fake Ogham tree calendar and fake Ogham zodiac are based on that lie. It is not the first or last lie that they told us but so many were fooled by it and now, because that felony continues to be compounded it is high time that such cultural misappropriation was sorted. The ancient Ogham of Ogma was not a ‘tree alphabet’ despite the popularity such a notion has gained. It did include many trees as they were of huge importance to a forest economy but Ogham was not exclusively a ‘tree alphabet, zodiac or calendar’ as I’ll detail later.
In the following presentation, a mix of new and old Triads are given as ‘TriadNua’ meaning ‘new Triads’ and these are written in ‘OgamNua’ which means ‘new Ogham’. In these new TriadNua and OgamNua, our ancient way of teaching and our linear script are now placed together and brought back into modern use. I make no claims of ancient lineage continuity with any secret organisation of Druids or Triads or Ogham teachings. While leaning on the past I live here in the now.
I have written for the now and for the future using our forgotten traditions of Triads and Ogham, all updated for our era.
Enjoy!
