Beltine is not a Cross Quarter event.

Beltine is not a Cross Quarter event. Beltine is not May Day. Beltine is not a catholic Gregorian calendar event either. Beltine is an expression and celebration of our cultural relationship to this land and its relationship with the bright star of the Great Bull as it sets just after the Sun has set. This special setting is helical which means that the star flashes brightly just before it too disappears into the underworld. This helical setting of the bright star (the eye of the great bull) gives us the timing for starting new adventures just as it did for our ancestors. The timing for Imbolg, Lughnasa and Samhain are also connected to bright stars in the Zodiac and it is the helical setting of these bright stars that determines the timing for their celebrations. All part of the online course here.

A Cross Quarter event is an intellectual abstraction of interpolated mid points. It cannot be conflated with Beltine. Beltine is celebrated as a time of heightened spiritual connection and readiness for new adventures. The ceremonies of Beltine are living expressions of who we are in relation to Nature and the cycles of time. The timing for the cultural celebration of Beltine is intrinsically linked with Bile. Who Bile was to our ancestors and who Bile is to us today is what Celtic Druid Temple seeks to explore, express and celebrate.

If the
star stories of your ancestors were taken from you, they can be reclaimed. On this land we still have access to the places our ancestors observed the stars from. To sit in or upon a sacred site and watch the passage of the stars above you is to relearn who you are in relation to the world. When this is done together we begin to recognize patterns and our ancestors smile upon us as they watch us take on the great task of reweaving our own star lore.
